⭐ WHAT YOUR PLAYER WILL LEARN
Throughout the season, players will build confidence while developing essential hockey skills, including:
- Stopping in both directions
- Passing and puck control
- Agility and balance
- Edge control
- Hockey positioning and game awareness
- Teamwork and confidence on the ice
From their first puck touches to their first scrimmages, our goal is to help kids develop strong fundamentals while discovering a lifelong love of hockey.
🏒 WHAT TO EXPECT
Learn to Play is about development, confidence, and FUN!
Sessions will focus on age-appropriate drills and activities designed to keep players moving and engaged while teaching the fundamentals of hockey.
As players progress, coaches will begin incorporating more game-like situations and scrimmages so they can learn how to use their new skills while playing the game.
Every player develops at their own pace. Our goal is to challenge each child while making sure they leave the rink feeling successful and excited to come back.

👋 MEET YOUR COACH
Hi! I’m Heather Pierce, and I’m excited to be coaching Learn to Play Hockey this season.
I’m a Hyde Park mom of two, a 4-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter, and hockey has been a big part of my life since I was young.
I started playing with Dorchester Youth Hockey before attending Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Minnesota, where I continued developing as a player. I went on to play NCAA Division I hockey at Northeastern University from 2013–2017, while also studying American Sign Language.
Today, I work as an American Sign Language interpreter, a career I love because it allows me to help people connect.
As a coach, my goal is to create a positive and supportive environment where every player feels comfortable learning, growing, and having fun. We’ll focus on strong skating and hockey fundamentals while building confidence and a love for the game.
Most importantly, I want every player to feel challenged, encouraged, and excited to come back to the rink each week.
I can’t wait to get on the ice with your kids this season!
