HPYH Coaching Requirements

To coach with Hyde Park Youth Hockey, all coaches must complete the following requirements before participating in any team activities. Coaches cannot be added to a roster until all items are completed.

1. USA Hockey Registration

  • Annual registration required each season starting April 1.
  • You’ll receive an electronic copy of your registration from USA Hockey.
  • Add your USA Hockey (USAH) number to your Crossbar account each season. Refer to the Parent Resources for steps to link

2. SafeSport Certification

  • Required every year.
  • Training consists of a Core Course followed by three annual refresher courses.
  • Every fourth year, coaches must retake the Core Course.
  • Each course is valid for 12 months.

3. CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information)

  • Required every year under Massachusetts law.
  • Processing may take up to two weeks at the start of the season, so complete this early.
  • To get started, email: trustee@hydeparkyouthhockey.com for the required documents.


4. USA Hockey Background Screen

  • Required every two seasons.
  • Conducted through NCSI.
  • Processing typically takes 10–14 business days.
  • You will need to upload a valid photo ID.

5. Online Age-Specific Modules

  • Available through the USA Hockey e-Learning system.
  • Coaches must first complete the Foundations of Player Development Module.
  • Then complete the Age-Specific Module for the age group you are coaching:
  • 8U
  • 10/12U
  • 13+

6. Coaching Education Program (CEP)

  • Deadline: All coaches must attend a CEP clinic by January 1.
  • Progression: Start at Level 1; complete a clinic each year until at least Level 4.
  • 8U Exception: Coaches of 8U-only teams may remain at Level 1 until they coach an older group.
  • Clinic Rule: Only one (1) clinic per year.
  • Continuing Education: After Level 4, coaches must complete 5 credit hours of continuing education every three years.
  • Flexibility: Clinics may be virtual or in-person, and you do not need to take one in Massachusetts.
  • Timing: Sessions typically run through November and fill up quicklyβ€”register early!
