June 2010

Hello Members of Hyde Park Youth Hockey,

I hope you enjoyed the 2009/2010 hockey season and are looking forward to a great 2010/2011 season! As you may be aware, elections were held at the April General Meeting for open Board positions. Click here for the list of your newly elected representatives. I would like to welcome the new members, thank the returning members for their continued efforts, and acknowledge the former board members for all they have done for Hyde Park Youth Hockey.

This year we have decided to keep the same costs for all levels. Travel teams assessments will remain at $775, Midget half season $425, also the House/Intro and Learn to Skate prices will remain the same ($275, $200 and $175).

There is one significant change based on a new USA/Mass Hockey policy: ALL MEMBERS MUST SELF-REGISTER FOR USA/MASS HOCKEY ONLINE. In order to do this we have spelled out the process to self-register. This registration has a fee of $35; $30 for USA Hockey and $5 for MA Hockey. The player will be responsible for this charge. Please follow the instructions below.

To self-register:

In preparation for the 2010/11 Hockey Season, it’s now time for skaters and coaches to register directly with USA Hockey. You will need you to follow the steps below before the HPYH rosters can be finalized. If you registered online with USA Hockey after 4/1/10 and received a confirmation # for the 2010/11 season, please go to PART 2.

PART 1
1. Go to the USA Hockey Registration website: www.usahockeyregistration.com and choose ice players & coaches option.

2. Follow the instructions and complete the registration. The cost is $35 per person and covers USA and MASS Hockey registration for the season.

3. Upon registration completion, you will receive an email with your USA confirmation number. IMPORTANT: USA hockey issues a new number each year - it WILL NOT be the same as last year.

PART 2
1. Go to www.hydeparkyouthhockey.com

2. Click on Edit My Account located on the lower left hand side of the main webpage.

3. Enter your email and password to open your profile. Don’t know if you have a profile? Follow the instructions on that page to access or set one up (instructions spelled out below too).

4. Click on the name of the player or coach to open their profile.

5. Scroll down to enter the USA Hockey Confirmation # you received (be sure it is accurate). REMEMBER if last year’s number is there, you must replace with the new one.

6. Click on Submit. Repeat steps for all players and coaches.

After August 15, coaches will receive an updated roster with all players registered with USA Hockey. Those not registered will not be able to practice or play until their registration is complete and may become ineligible to play in state playdown tournaments.

NOTE: Self-registration is a mandate of USA Hockey to all youth hockey programs in the country. USA Hockey no longer allows programs to register participants. A parent or guardian of a player under 18 must complete the USA Hockey registration process.

IF YOU ARE CHANGING SKATING CLUBS TO JOIN HPYH PLEASE NOTE: A completed Hockey Financial Waiver Form is required for skaters joining from another MASS Hockey program. Please request the program you are departing to complete the form and forward it to the HPYH Registrar. The form IS available at www.mahockey.org/forms_apps.htm. Questions can be directed to our Registrar.

As members of Hyde Park Youth Hockey, we all have an interest in keeping the program viable and affordable. In researching other area programs, we found making these financial adjustments still leaves us the most affordable program in the area and we didn’t need to cut back on ice time. We also know, to offset the ever-increasing costs of running a youth hockey program, we need to be vigilant in our fundraising efforts. Please consider sponsoring, finding sponsors, participating in club fundraising activities and volunteering in the snack bar. All efforts made in these areas result in controlling costs for our families.

I would like to wish all a safe and happy summer and remember to visit our website often for updates, summer skating opportunities, and team rosters and schedules as the summer progresses.

Thank You
Bill Dunn
President, Hyde Park Youth Hockey
