Tryout Results Are Posted
by posted 03/06/2010

Tryouts for the 2010/11 season are now behind you and the results are posted on the HPYH Teams Tab, 2010/2011 Tryout Results tab on the left of the page.

We had a great turnout, once again, which is exciting for the future growth of our program!

With all our teams, please remember that the season start is a long way off and there is usually some movement, families leaving the area, injuries, etc. The final number of teams may not be determined until August. If our number of participants changes, there is a possibility of fewer teams, so some players may move up to a different team based on where they ranked in tryouts. No one will move down.

Thanks again to all the skaters for their hard work, and to everyone who helped pull these tryouts together.

Questions? Please contact one of the Tryout Committee Members listed below or attend the Tryout Meeting Thursday, March 11th, 7pm, at Bajko Rink.

R.I.P. Paul Hellen
by posted 03/02/2010

Up in the stands is the man with the HPYH Jacket, filming the hockey action on the ice. Next to him are a few kids running the play by play for the community broadcast to be televised at a date to be named later. By the locker room, interviewing every skater as they prepare to go to the next adventure of the day. The man recording our kids achievements? Mr. Paul Hellen.

For many years Paul has been an integral part of Hyde Park Youth Hockey and other community activities. Sadly, Paul passed away on March 1 at his home in South Boston. Please click here to view his obituary and information about his wake and funeral.

Paul always loved Hyde Park Youth Hockey and he will rest forever in his beloved HPYH Jacket. Please consider sharing your thoughts with his family by either attending his services or sending a message through the legacy.com website.

Paul, we will miss you.

USA Hockey and the H1N1 Virus
by posted 11/02/2009

Communication from USA Hockey:

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Dear Program Administrator/Coach

We’ve worked with our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Stuart, to provide you with pertinent regarding the H1N1 virus, including recommendations to reduce the likelihood of spreading the infection.

Specifically, USA Hockey recommends:

Provide individual water bottles for players; do not share water bottles
Regularly wash hands
Clean workout gear for each practice/competition
Keep gloves on during the traditional handshake with opponents

You should be aware that symptoms of the virus include: fever (102 degrees fahrenheit or greater), cough, muscle aches, runny nose, headache or sore threat, with the potential for more serious complications, including pneumonia.

Those affected by the H1N1 virus typically have been children and young adults.

Transmission of the virus may occur from the day before the onset of symptoms and during the five to seven days that the symptoms are present. Infected individuals should stay home until signs and symptoms have resolved, with no fever present for at least 24 hours. The 24-hour no-fever timeline should be achieved naturally, without the aid of fever reducing medications.

Additional information regarding H1N1 is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by visiting www.cdc.gov/H1N1Flu/.

Best wishes for a successful season.
